Mission Statement:
Several high schools have large, thriving debate programs, however, most middle schools do not. This is where SBYDA comes in. SBYDA is a FREE debate academy which teaches students, primarily middle schoolers, the essentials to debate, and specifically, tactics to win. SBYDA is taught by four high schoolers who want to expose middle schoolers to the world of debate, one which we found very fun and beneficial. SBYDA aims to help middle schoolers find a passion for debate, all while turning them into champions through teaching them what has been proven to lead to success. Additionally, beginning debate in middle school with SBYDA ensures that students will begin high school with success in debate, rather than having to learn all the basics during their first year, and only achieve success and develop winning tactics in the following years. SBYDA also allows students to avoid any uncertainty about their extracurricular interests during their freshman year. Thus, SBYDA gives students a major headstart when beginning high school.
